Part IV: The Position Statement (Week 2=red; Week 3=orange; Week 4=green, Week 5= blue, Week 6=purple.) Many people believe that teaching is a very challenging career and wonder why people would go into it, but then I realized there is no career that will make me happier than the teaching profession. Since my child hood, I have been fascinated by my fourth grade teacher Ms. Amo-Dako and her dedication and love for her students, and I desired from then on that I wanted to be like her. However, being a part of someoneââ¬â¢s life to bring a positive change is fulfilling and the passion to be the one who affects a childââ¬â¢s being in order to make difference in the world draws me to the noble profession. As an aspiring teacher, it is my intent to accomplish a teaching practice that will foster progressive growth of my learners. My goals here are to encourage my students to think critically and bring out the creativity in them by way of incorporating different learning approaches and ideas such as: interaction, hands-on activities (kinesthetic), visual, and experimenting. In his philosophy, the teacher becomes a partner in the learning process, guiding students to independently discover meaning within the subject area. This has become an increasingly common idea in the present day classroom. The classroom learning becomes teacher-student centered. This approach depicts the progressive concept of John Dewey. Personal Narrative My Sister Tita - 1146 Words
To My Sister Tita, Born from the same mother and with the same blood running through our veins, we are sisters. The eyes we look through are the same, and the organs that fuel our bodies are related. We grew up together, lived under the same roof, and watched one another mature. With Gertrudis, the three of us were inseparable despite our differing ages. I was there when you were born, and there when you first gained your culinary passion. I loved you, yet why do you hate me so? You accuse me of stealing your one true love, yet it was not I who chose to do so. I only followed Mamiââ¬â¢s orders, yet you still call me the villain. He did so even as I was pregnant with his child, fat and undesirable. My self esteem plummeted, and I could feel both my husband and sister slip away from me. Gertrudis was the only one I could confide in, and she soon disappeared. I had no one but Mami, who didnââ¬â¢t care for me, but for appearances and family tradition. I knew that Pedro only married me so he could stay in close proximity to you, and Iââ¬â¢m sure Mami came to the realization as well. Australian Accounting and Contemporary Issues
Question: Discuss about the Australian Accounting and Contemporary Issues. Answer: Introduction The current study elucidates in detail the detailed objectives of the conceptual framework and the qualitative characteristics of the financial framework. The present report thereafter explicates in detail the extent to which the financial statements of the firm BHP Billiton adheres to the conceptual framework. BHP Billiton is a well-known firm in Australia that primarily deals with the effective production of the iron ore, oil and gas and uranium and many others. The corporation BHP Billiton effectually handles and controls huge mines from which the company generates revenue. The company reportedly generated revenue of approximately 61 billion during the year 2015 along with a profit amount of roughly 2 billion. The declined profit of the corporation during the period 2015 acted as an impediment in the sustainable operations of the company (Bhpbilliton.com, 2016). Objectives of the conceptual framework As rightly indicated by Apostolou et al., (2013), the objective of the conceptual framework is to deliver a strong foundation for development of a standard framework and to establish an enhanced Conceptual Framework. The revised conceptual framework is essentially grounded on basic economic principles rather than an assortment of arbitrary resolution. The conceptual framework can eventually replace the existent IASB as well as the FASB structure and sets a common basis for both of the two Boards. This in turn can eliminate the overall risk of arriving at different conclusions regarding identical and similar problems. The absence of the conceptual framework would have led to the development of accounting standards and principles in a very haphazard manner to deal with different issues that might arise. The non-existence of the conceptual framework can also lead to development of accounting standards that are inconsistent with one another as well as the legislation. Alexander (2013) op ines that following a single conceptual framework can help the preparers as well as users of financial declarations to comprehend accounting practices as well as accounting standards that are founded on a common philosophy. Again, the conceptual framework also offers guidance for different unusual business transactions that might otherwise be used for analysis. There are certain individuals who believe that following a particular conceptual framework can help in the process of improvement of the overall credibility of the entire accounting profession. Barth (2013) affirms that the conceptual framework institutes different concepts and at the same time ideas that can outline the entire process of preparation as well as presentation of the financial reports for different users of the financial information. Bonin (2013) declares that the conceptual framework addresses specific objectives of financial reporting, qualitative characteristics of different financial information and reporting entity. In addition to this, the conceptual framework also can define, identify and enumerate different components that are used for preparation of financial announcements. Moreover, the conceptual framework also helps in addressing significant concepts of both capital as well as maintenance of capital. Qualitative characteristics of the conceptual framework As rightly mentioned by Botzem (2012), the qualitative features of important financial information distinguishes between two different categories of qualitative characteristics that are necessary to deliver important financial information. The qualitative characteristics therefore can be differentiated as fundamental qualitative characteristics and the enhancing qualitative characteristics. The fundamental characteristics essentially include the relevance as well as faithful representation. On the other hand, the enhancing qualitative characteristics of the conceptual framework comprises of the comparability, timeliness, verifiability as well as comprehensibility (Brigham Ehrhardt, 2013). The fundamental characteristics of relevance refer to a fundamental qualitative characteristics that refers to the potential to make a difference in the process of arriving at decisions made by different users. Thus, in a bid to make a difference, the financial information contains a predictive, confirmatory value or else both the values. The framework essentially extends the principle of materiality as a component of relevance. Nevertheless, the boards have necessarily clarified that materiality is essentially a firm specific factor of the characteristic of relevance that is founded on the nature or else the magnitude of different items that can be related to the information. Deegan (2012) affirms that the faithful representation refers to another category of the fundamental qualitative characteristics that can replace the previously used term reliability. The board has presently determined that there remains inadequacy of common understanding regarding reliability. However the fina ncial information that faithfully reflects economic occurrences generally have three different features as well as characteristics. The financial information that faithfully replicates fact are essentially complete, neutral as well as free from errors (Deegan, 2013). In addition to this, the purpose and intention of the enhancing qualitative characteristics are to augment both the relevance as well as faithful representation of particular financial information. Therefore, this features need to be optimized both individually as well as in amalgamation (Zhou et al., 2016). The characteristics and features of comparability can help in identification of similarities as well as dissimilarities among different items, diverse period of time within a specific set of financial declarations and across different reporting entities. Verifiability refers to the new principle that enables knowledgeable as well as independent observers to attain a consensus regarding a specific depiction of a particular event or else transactions (Linsmeier, 2016). The timeliness refers to a particular feature under the conceptual framework that emphasizes on the maintenance of balance between timely reporting as well as dependable information. Again, the understand ability has also been carried forward from the present framework and this requires clear as well as concise presentation that is essentially understandable by others (Macve, 2015). Analysis of the conceptual framework from the financial reports BHP Billiton In accordance to the compliance announcements of the company BHP Billiton, it can thus be inferred that the general purpose financial reports of the firm is in compliance with the Corporation Act of the year 2001. Moreover, the general purpose financial reports (GPFR) of the corporation BHP Billiton has also been arranged, prepared as well as presented after taking account diverse accounting rules, regulations, principles as conditioned under the Australian Accounting standards Board. This compliance with the accounting standards, regulations, directives as well as notions can help in assuring the fact that the financial announcement so the firm are developed as per the regulations of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). However, the analysis of the GPFR also helps in understanding the fact that the basis of preparation that is primarily used for the preparation of the reports for this company essentially adheres with the conceptual structure of accounting (Zhang Andrew, 2014). Thus, it can be said that the financial dimensions as well as measurements are necessarily founded on the historical cost barring certain assets as well as liabilities. Moreover, the conceptual framework also presents different criteria for recognition. The critical evaluation of the financial report reveals the fact the company recognizes the revenue at the fair value under different conditions. Again, the contracts of leases are essentially posted in financial accounts by following a straight line basis over a particular duration of time. Moreover, the company recognizes the borrowings at fair value and account payables are necessarily recognized at the amortised cost. In addition to this, there are different items that can be enumerated according to the recognition criteria as stated in the accounting regulations. The BHP Billiton also conforms to the regulations stated under Corporation Act 2001 as well as UK Companies Act along with the Australian Accounting Stan dards Board (Bhpbilliton.com, 2016). Evaluation of the financial declaration of the corporation BHP Billiton The report on expenditure of BHP Billiton during the year 2015 can be analysed effectively by using the figure 1 above. Furthermore, the figure also portrays the inclusive process of valuation of alteration in the expenditure of the corporation during the duration 2014 and 2015. The change in the figure on expenses primarily refers to the entire changes in the strategies of the corporation (Bhpbilliton.com, 2016). In particular, during the year 2015, the corporation chiefly declared profits of around $2878 as compared to the previous years figure recorded to be $15224. Again, the quick decrease in the overall profits mainly refers to the overall loss in companys revenue as well as group earnings of the company BHP Billiton. The analysis of the reports also reveal the fact that the overall expenditure of the corporation has increased during the year 2015 irrespective of the decrease in the earnings. Again, during the period 2015, a supplementary impairment of particularly the plant and property also increased from $336 recorded during the period 2014 to $3448 during the year 2015 (Bhpbilliton.com, 2016). However, the soaring expenses of the company led to the diminished ability of the firm to uphold the cash balance. Botzem (2012) mentions that material misstatements take place at the time when the auditors use the directives as well as regulations of AASB for auditing and can detect irregulari ties in the financial records of the firm. Botzem (2012) affirms that the regulations as well as directives conditioned under particularly the Corporation Act as well as regulations for material misstatements stipulated by the Australian Accounting Standard Board (AASB) (Aasb.gov.au, 2016). Thus, the enforcement of the rules as well as regulations can help in lessening the material misstatements recorded in the financial declarations of the company. Alexander (2013) points out the fact that external audit declarations can also help in identifying the authenticity of the financial announcements of the corporation. However, on the other hand, Barth (2013) asserts that the recognized loopholes as well as disreputable measures utilized by external assessors can lead to overall inflation of figures in statements of the profit and loss as well as balance sheet statement and consequently attract investors. The critical evaluation of the annual report reveals the fact that the administration of the company BHP develops the entire consolidated statement as per the International Financial Reporting Standards as declared by International Accounting Standards Board as outlined under the section 41 that presents essentially the basis of preparation as well as measurement in the financial statements (Bhpbilliton.com, 2016). Moreover, the management also utilizes different non-IFRS measures that facilitate the procedure of investigation of the financial performance. Critical analysis of the Directors Report of the company BHP Billiton The critical analysis of the report presented by the director in the annual report of the company during the period 2015 reflects the fact that this report mainly discusses about the viability as well as authenticity of the financial declarations. Furthermore, the report of the director also mentions that the financial announcements for the company BHP Billiton has been presented as per the regulations stipulated under the Corporation Act 2001 of Australia and the Companies Act UK (Bhpbilliton.com, 2016). Again, detailed evaluation of the directors report also replicates the fact that the management of the corporation do not conform to the regulations conditioned under the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). In addition to this, the present report also clearly mentions that the financial report of the corporation conform to the International Financial Reporting Standards as presented under Note 41 that reflects essentially the Basis of Preparation and Measurement. Besides, the current re port also warrants the fact that the financial report of the company BHP presents a true as well as fair view of the overall development, performance as well as financial health of the firm. However, the report of the director does not comply with the obligatory requirements of the 303 A section that is essential for firms listed under the NYSE (Bhpbilliton.com, 2016). As such, the detailed analysis of the directors report divulges the fact that all other factors of this report effectually conforms with the regulations as well as the directives laid down by the AASB, Corporation Act as well as Australian government. In accordance with the regulations of AASB APES 110 (code of ethics) declared by the International Accounting Standards, corporations need to take into consideration different ethical considerations. AASB can also implement penalties for violation of the ethical code of conduct (Aasb.gov.au, 2016). Analysis of the remuneration report of the firm BHP Billiton As per the annual announcements of the corporation BHP Billiton, it can be hereby inferred that the remuneration report is directly linked to the financial performance of the company. Nevertheless, the remuneration report of the firm is necessarily assessed by diverse legislations in the country UK as well as Australia. The critical evaluation also complies with the UK Companies Act 2006 together with the Medium Sized firms and groups for the development and preparation of the remuneration report of the firm in UK. Nonetheless, the remuneration report of the company also follows the obligatory requirements of the Australian Corporation Act 2001, AASB as well as the IFRS in Australia (Bhpbilliton.com, 2016). According to the remuneration declaration, the elements of the remuneration comprises of necessarily the base salary, diverse benefits (cash and non- cash), short term and at the same time long time incentives as well as pension. Again, the entire remuneration of the chief executi ve officer is recorded to be $4582 (000) during the period 2015. Nevertheless, the remuneration report of the CEO recorded during the year 2014 was essentially $7988 (000) (Bhpbilliton.com, 2016). Conclusion The above mentioned helps in gaining a detailed overview of the objectives of the conceptual framework and different qualitative characteristics. The current report also helps in gaining deep insight regarding the appraisal of the financial report of BHP Billiton during 2015 and helps in examining the extent to which the company has failed to meet the conceptual framework. The above study analyses the financial reports of the firm, remuneration reports, and directors report declared in the annual report to analyse the fulfilment of the conceptual framework in detail. People Of The World People of the world are, or sometimes feel distant to me because I never interact with them as a whole. Most of the time when I meet someone from another country they are in the U.S. and speak English. I would like to meet people from around the world in their own environment, other than Canadians (I have been to Canada). I guess all I cam reflect on is what I have dealt with here at Fayetteville State University, and what I have encountered from other travels. The only other country I have visited Canada and it seems as if all of the people there are seven-day Adventist. They are very nice people dont get me wrong but they push their views on to you. Im not saying one religion is right and the other is wrong Im just saying provide facts and let me decide for myself. Living in New York though you meet a lot of different people. Going through China Town is like (Ive heard) being in China, and with all the different ethnic restaurants around, you can eat different countries' food everyday of the week. The only thing about being in ethnic diversity is that you have to watch what you say because of Jokes to one race are not always jokes to another. One of he experiences Ive had with other countries natives is one guy I knew from Uganda and his mom used to cook things Ive never heard of before. Like for instance, fried bananas is one of the things Ive never heard of. I didnt know you could cook bananas at all. I also have a Russian and German friend to. At the Russians house they make reddish soup with all kinds of things in it that is real good. At the Germans house they make deer meet all kinds of ways so I get my share of ethnic eating. In conclusion I have had a taste of other countries, literally, but I would still like to visit in their environments so that I can get the full effect. Aviation Essays

Professionals should besides portion information about SU s to maintain themselves and their co-workers safe from injury. Working together to safeguard kids states that developing on safeguarding kids and immature people should be embedded within a wider model of committedness to bury and multi-agency working at strategic and operational degrees underpinned by shared ends, be aftering procedures and values. The Children Act 1989 recognised that the designation and probe of kid maltreatment, together with the protection and support of victims and their households, requires multi-agency coaction. Caring for People ( DH, 1989 ) stated that successful coaction required a clear, common apprehension by every bureau of each others duties and powers, in order to do kick how and with whom coaction should be secured. It is apparent from the above that Government has been actively advancing collaborative working, and this is reflected in professional literature. Hence, the policy clime and legislative background were established to ease inter-agency and intra-agency coaction. The declared purpose has been to make high quality, needs-led, coordinated services that maximised pick for the service user ( Payne, 1995 ) . Political force per unit area in recent old ages has focused attending on interprofessional coaction in SW ( Pollard, Sellman A ; Senior, 2005 ) and when viewed as a good thing , it is worthwhile to critically analyze its benefits and drawbacks merely what is so good about it. ( Leathard, 2003 ) . Interprofessional coaction benefits the service user by the usage of complementary accomplishments, shared cognition, resources and possibility better occupation satisfaction. Soon after the new Labour authorities in 1997 gave a powerful new drift to the construct of coaction and partnership between wellness professionals and services, they recognised this and there was a overplus of societal policy enterprises official on collaborative working published. A clear indicant of this can be found in NHS Plan ( DH, 2000 ) , Modernizing the Social Services ( DH, 1998a ) . Policies concent rated on bureau constructions and better articulation working. This was nil new, since the 1970s there has been a turning accent on multiagency working. 1974 saw the first large imperativeness engagement in the decease of a kid ( Maria Coldwell ) and they questioned why professionals were non able to protect kids who they had identified as most at hazard. The pendulum of menace to kids so swung excessively much the other manner and the thresholds for intercessions were significantly lowered, which culminated with the Cleveland Inquiry of 1988 when kids were removed from their households when there was small concrete grounds of injury ( Butler-Sloss, 1988 ) , with excessively much accent put on the medical sentiment. An equilibrium was needed for a collaborative work moral principle to portion cognition and accomplishments and Munro ( 2010 ) provinces that other service bureaus can non and should non replace SWs, but there is a demand for bureaus to prosecute professionally about kid s, immature people and households on their caseloads. The Children Act 2004 ( Dept of Health, 2004 ) and associated authorities counsel, introduced following the Public Inquiry into the decease of Victoria Climbie in 2000, including Every Child Matters ( Dept of Health, 2003 ) , were written to emphasize the importance of interprofessional and multiagency working and to assist better it. The failure to join forces efficaciously was highlighted as one of many missed chances by the enquiry into the tragic decease of Victoria Climbie ( Laming, 2003 ) and Baby Peter ( Munro, 2009 ) . There is an premise that shared information is information understood jobs with information sharing and effectual commination are cited once more and once more in public question studies Rose and Barnes 2008 ; Brandon et Al, 2008 ) . These jobs can merely be approximately really practical issues, such as holds in information shearing, lost messages, names and references that are falsely recorded ( Crippling 2003 cited in Ten booby traps and how to avoid them 2010 ) An expressed purpose was to actuate the part of multiagency working. By 1997 Labour had been re elected and rolled out a figure of surveies into coaction. These surveies revealed the many complexnesss and obstructions to collaborative working ( Weinstein, 2003 ) . The chief drivers of the authorities s wellness and societal attention policies were partnership, coaction and multi-disciplinary working. One of the countries covered by Working Together to Safeguard Children 2010 ( Dept of Health, 2010 ) stated that administrations and bureaus should work together to recognize and pull off any person who presents a hazard of injury to kids. The Children Act 1989 ( Dept of Health, 1989 ) requires multi-agency coaction to assist indentify and look into any instances of kid maltreatment, and the protection and support of victims and their households. It should be remembered that everyone brings their piece of expertise/ cognition to assist construct the saber saw ( Working Together 2010 ) an d to measure the service user in a holistic manner. Although the virtues of coaction have seldom been disputed, the hazard of struggle between the professional groups remains. Some of the barriers to coaction are different resource allotment systems, different answerability constructions, professional tribalism, gait of alteration and disbursement restraints The disadvantages are if commissioning was led by wellness, an over-emphasis on wellness attention demands, and unfairnesss between patients from different patterns There are challenges in footings of professional and personal opposition to alter ; it is hard to alter entrenched attitudes even through inter-professional instruction. Sometimes professionals disagree about the causes of and the solutions to jobs, they may hold different aims because of different paradigms ( Pierson A ; M, 2010 ) . There are besides several concerns for SWs which include non cognizing which appraisals to utilize, looking to be different or work otherwise from others in the squad, non being taken earnestly or listened to by co-workers and non holding sufficient clip or resources because of budget restraints ( Warren, 2007 ) . Some of the logical thinking for this pessimistic temper is feelings of inequality and competitions, the comparative position and power of professionals, professional individuality and district. Different forms of answerability and discretion between professionals, are all lending factors to these feelings ( Hudson, 2002 ) . Thompson ( 2009 ) suggests that alternatively of the SW being viewed as the expert with all the replies to the jobs, they should step back and expression at what other professionals can lend. Collaborative working offers a manner frontward, in which the SW works with everyone involved with the clients ; carers, voluntary workers and other professional staff, to maximize the resources, therefore giving an chance for doing advancement and affording the service user the best possible attention. Weinstein, et Al, ( 2003 ) stated that although there are jobs with collaborative working, the possible positive results out-weight the negatives. There could be a more incorporate, seasonably and consistent response to the many complex homo jobs, fewer visits, better record maintaining and transportation of information, and some decrease of hazard ; therefore the whole is greater than the amount of the parts. If SWs work in silos , working in a vacuity, they are improbable to maximize their impact ( Brodie, 2008 ) . It is of import to utilize coaction and an interprofessional/multi bureau working civilization in Social Work in order that the most vulnerable service users receive the best possible appraisals of their demands. The advantages are better apprehension of the restraints of each bureau and system overall, shared information on local demands, decrease in duplicate of appraisals, better planning, avoiding the blame civilization when jobs occurred and accessing societal attention via wellness less stigmatising. Greater cognition of the SWs functions and duties by other wellness attention professionals will guarantee that the SWs function is non substituted in appraisal of the service users fortunes and demands ( Munro, 2010 ) . The Munro Report ( 2010 ) besides states that if everyone holds a piece of the saber saw a full image is impossible until every piece is put together. Working together to Safeguard Children states a multi-professional attack is required to guarantee coaction among all involved, which may include ambulance staff, A A ; E section staff, medical examiners officers, constabularies, GPs, wellness visitants, school nurses, community kids s nurses, accoucheuses, baby doctors, alleviant or terminal of life attention staff, mental wellness professionals, substance abuse workers, hospital mourning staff, voluntary bureaus, medical examiners, diagnosticians, forensic medical testers, local authorization kids s societal attention, YOTs, probation, schools, prison staff where a kid has died in detention and any others who may happen themselves with a part to do in single instances ( for illustration, fire combatants or faith leaders ) . In a survey by Carpenter et Al ( 2003 ) refering the impact on staff of supplying integrated attention in multi-disciplinary mental wellness squads in the North of England, the most positive consequences were found in countries where services were to the full integrated. There is much grounds to propose that coaction represents an ethical method of pattern where differences are respected, but used creatively to happen solutions to complex jobs. In kernel the service user should be cared for in a holistic attack and to accomplish this coaction is the reply. ( 1516 ) Professor Munro askes Some local countries have introduced societal work-led, multi-agency vicinity squads to assist inform best following stairss in regard of a kid or immature individual, including whether a formal kid protection intercession is needed. Do you believe this is utile? Do you hold grounds of it working good? What are the practical deductions of this attack? Comparing Narrative in Fiction and Nonfiction (Literature) Essay
Comparing Narrative in Fiction and Nonfiction (Literature) - Essay Example In contrast, the nonfiction account is typically focused on conveying information and establishing itself as a serious or truthful account. This can be seen when one compares three short pieces such as the fictional stories ââ¬Å"A Delicate Balanceâ⬠(Armas) and ââ¬Å"In Serviceâ⬠(Alcott) and the nonfiction ââ¬Å"Pablo Picasso: Living in His Own Shadowâ⬠(Goodman), all of which deal with the theme of finding transcendent value in the process of work. In ââ¬Å"A Delicate Balanceâ⬠(Armas), the narrative voice establishes a means of showing the reader Romeroââ¬â¢s example of transcendent value in work because it observes at the same time that it tells. Romero Estrada is introduced as a somewhat strange man who spends his mornings in a perfect and inexplicable routine of sweeping the sidewalks up and cleaning up the trash for the various businesses up and down his street and then spending the afternoons hanging out at the various businesses as appropriate. He obviously enjoys this life because ââ¬Å"he took great care to sweep cleanly, between the cracks and even between the sides of the buildings â⬠¦ The work took him the whole morning if he did it the way he wantedâ⬠(Armas 17). However, the narrative voice that tells the reader these things is not identified in any way and is therefore allowed to transfer from one mind to another with impunity. It is a disembodied voice that seems capable of hovering over the scene below and observing intimate details without having any effect on the events occurring. While it is capable of telling the reader how Romero works when he does it ââ¬Ëlike he wanted,ââ¬â¢ the narrator is also aware of private conversations between Barelas and his son Seferino and the thoughts of these men as they talk. It tells us ââ¬Å"Barelas knew his son was putting something over on him, but he didnââ¬â¢t know how to answerâ⬠while ââ¬Å"Seferino watched with pride as Romero went about his jobâ⬠(Armas 19). This ability to show the story through

The Mistake of the Month - Essay Example Paine decides to start up a program that would help members admit their mistakes, and come up with solutions that would help them avoid making the same mistakes again (Lee, 2009). During the implementation of the program, Paine discovers that at least 2000 mistakes have been reported, and that very few were repeated (Lee, 2009), such an observation proved to Paine that the winning practice was effective. New Zealand Health and Disability Policy Analysis
New Zealand Health and Disability Policy Analysis Policy focus for Disability The people with inabilities are the people who have whole deal physical, mental, sagacious or material deterrents with in correspondence with diverse limits may discourage their full and practical enthusiasm toward general society eye on a comparable reason with others. A solitary individual with failure by and large obliges some sort of systematized mental test conclusions and the estimation of down as far as possible. Insufficiency Rights International has involved with a multi-year campaign to accomplish general recognized that the evil utilization of young people and adults with incapacities can constitute torment through our reports on Turkey, Romania, Serbia, the United States and our indictment against Paraguay in the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Regardless of the way that the widespread gathering has starting late made extraordinary strides in the recognized of the benefits of people with inabilities, the isolation and abuse of people with incapacities was obvio usly not seen as moving to the level of human rights sick uses associated with the most anomalous measure of overall criticism: torment. To some degree, this is because of the overall human rights gathering fail to test the instances of helpful powers that treatment practices were remedially crucial or legitimate. Through watchful examination and reality finding, Disability Rights International has had the ability to display that these practices are awful, perilous, and not sensible as treatment. Education and training Trying to source recorded evidence as to Maori perspectives of impediment was to a degree risky in light of a nonappearance of composing on insufficiency. The things which we can look at when examining failure in Maori are, firstly, the impact of history and Treaty of Waitangi. Besides the constitutions mind structure. Third one is money related effects. Fourthly, customary sustenance and resources all in all the qualification amidst Maori and Pakeha perspective of impairment. The New Zealand Education Act of 1877 exhibited vital normal and free guideline for New Zealand kids who were between ages of seven and 13. In 1907 the Education Amendment Act began the change of specific schools and classes for adolescents who were perceived as imperfect. This infers a youth who, not being blockhead or dolt and not being just backward, is by reason of mental or physical flaw unequipped for tolerating true blue benefit from establishment in a standard school however is not deficient by reason o f such surrender of getting, benefit from heading in an one of a kind school or class (Mitchell Mitchell, 1987, p.14). New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act was introduced in 2000. The purpose behind this exhibit is to publicize the safe acquisition of wellbeing and failure organizations to the overall public, engage the establishment of consistent and sensible standards for giving wellbeing and inadequacy organizations to individuals all in all safely, help suppliers of wellbeing and debilitation organizations to expect risk for giving those organizations to the all-inclusive community safely and eventually to invigorate suppliers of wellbeing and powerlessness organizations to reliably improve the way of those organizations. The code of Health and Disability has diverse costumer rights. Right to be approached with reverence, right to adaptability from partition, impulse, baiting, and abuse, right to appreciation and flexibility, right to organizations of a fitting standard, right to fruitful correspondence, right to be totally instructed, right to settle on a good choice and give taught conc ur, right to help and rights to valuation for indicating or investigation, right to grumble. Business regulations combining work and care giving The core of developing and powerlessness methods is to help elderly people to continue lying in their own specific homes and to help people with utilitarian confinements to share as totally as could sensibly be normal in the general population eye. Despite developing strategies, for instance, developing set up, there are debilitation methodologies orientated towards understanding an exhaustive society that is non-handicapping and engages all people to share. Suppliers worth planning for paid gatekeepers, and from their perspective it is fundamentally a threat organization segment. More especially, suppliers perceived planning as a methodology to improve results for clients, and redesign the reliability, conviction, respect toward oneself and obligation of the paid watchmen to do their commitments. The bigger piece of suppliers (n = 392, 93%) have an arrangement mastermind set up, with 90% indicating get ready was required; then again, there were no genuine conclusions of non-support. This exhibits that there necessities to be more direction and planning provided for people to deal with this issue. There also needs to be more watchmen to offer attention to invalid people. In order to influence more people to work in the social protection industry government can grow the wages and diminish charges. Administration of Health can similarly influence private business to cooperate with attention giving. This is conceivable by opening more private orgs to give the specialists offices and rest homes with arranged gatekeepers and other wellbeing specialists. To give fitting thought to incapacitate firstly, we need to widen the thought of sensible acclimations to the welfare state. For this circumstance, we need to counter contemplations that welfare portions are just an adversity to the countrys economy. Additionally, defend and expand the rule of universalism. It can be described as religious, philosophical and philosophical thoughts. In this way, it can be used to recognize particular statutes considering all people in their creation. At last, we need to make systems for passing on organizations and helping which are co-made with the people who use such organizations. The private section, with its focus on profit and key commitment to stakeholders, can never work in the same empowering course as stand out from open division. This gathers that New Zealand Health and Disability needs a couple of changes as it was appropriated in the year 2000. Administration of Health can in like manner take after the principles gave by the WHO. Government can in like manner utilize more money as a part of the wellbeing zone, guideline and associations. This will urge more people to end up social protection specialists and will be valuable for the soundness of New Zealanders. Mini Position Paper Essay
Many schools exist that donââ¬â¢t create student success. In too many school systems today, students are deprived of the education they need to become successful in life. What is society doing to make sure these students find their way? What does it take for them to become successful participants of society? After reading Freireââ¬â¢s, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, I must say there is some truth to students being oppressed for they are being forced to matriculate in an educational environment they arenââ¬â¢t familiar with; canââ¬â¢t survive in; or donââ¬â¢t want to be in. Students who are in the predicament noted above are not able to thrive in a strong academic environment because, as Freire states, they donââ¬â¢t know their reality. If they knew their reality, they would be better prepared to adjust to what they need for academic success. My position is that students that will better succeed in vocational or magnet schools. The vocational option is best suited for students that are not college bound and need to learn hands-on job skills to work right out of high school. For the nontraditional student the magnet option can work well. As a dancer, I attended magnet performing art school and this opportunity allowed me to learn about my craft and move on to earning a scholarship to Temple University in dance and theater. It allowed me the option to get involved in a field that I love and having a love for what you do makes the difference in which you become. There is no denying that people are mentally in different places at different times in their lives. Whether they have been raised in a single parent home, or whether they grew up in an environment that isnââ¬â¢t conducive to learning, it is important that students know what they can handle in an educational setting. For some students, an advanced math class or AP courses may not be reasonable. There are some students that understand where they stand academically and know that they arenââ¬â¢t able to learn under the same conditions as other students. These students need to develop other avenues in which to become successful. Vocational and Magnet schools are a great source for students that arenââ¬â¢t ready for a rigorous academic curriculum. Although students will still get the core courses they need to graduate, they will also have a trade that will at least keep them employed and able to take care of them after graduating. There are students that have a love for cosmetology, auto mechanics or even plumbing. One important fact is that there are colleges that offer two year degrees in these vocational trades. It is crucial that todayââ¬â¢s generation know that there are options outside of becoming a doctor or lawyer. While we always need lawyers, doctors, and teachers, the world also needs mechanics to fix cars, a plumber to fix leaks the correct way or even a specialist to make sure a heating or air conditioning system is properly working. It is important that todayââ¬â¢s student be comfortable in knowing that being academically challenged is okay, and that choosing a vocational education is an option. Vocational Magnet educations are just as important and should be interjected in all of todayââ¬â¢s schools for they too serve a vital function in preparing our students in life. ââ¬Å"The Guardianâ⬠, a newspaper printed in the U. K. , ran an article in 2013 regarding vocational educations. It questioned the validity of the concept of vocational educations by asking the public if they value vocational skills. The article allowed people to give their opinions. Although most people were in support of vocational education, there were some that werenââ¬â¢t. One person commented that though he didnââ¬â¢t look down on vocational education, he would not consider the vocational route if he didnââ¬â¢t get the grades needed to attend a university. He finished by explaining he would definitely go for A-levels because in his opinion, ââ¬Å"they are far more respected by employers and universitiesâ⬠. In his opinion, having a career rather than a skill is more esteemed. After reading the article, I was stunned at the idea that vocational educations arenââ¬â¢t respected. That a plumber or custodian is not valued is a disrespectful and cocky position to take. Society will always needs someone to make sure offices are clean and bathroom toilets run properly. People underestimate that diverse careers are needed for the world to effectively revolve. Unfortunately vocational skills like plumbing, carpentry, and electricians have been downgraded in social status over the years. One of the biggest issues in education today is low graduation rates, low college entry and a growing rate of unemployment. Vocational education can be the resolution to this problem. What are missing in schools are alternatives like a technical baccalaureate, which offers valuable learning and real skills, and leads to real jobs for young people. Getting children in the right program for their learning needs is what leads to success. Vocational qualifications serve a need for particular kinds of students and are very important skills. Vocational education training provides career and technical education for students interested in jobs that are based upon labor-intensive or real-world jobs. The plus side to vocational education is that students have the opportunity to work in their field while in school; it requires less education than four year degree programs; the vocational fields are vast and varied such as, pharmacy and medical technicians, paralegals, medical assistants, office assistants, cosmetologists, mechanics and construction workers; it assists in higher graduation rates; increased employment; and overall student achievement. The objective in education is to assist students in their quest of having a stable life. A vocational education reinforces the connections between secondary and postsecondary education, and improves accountability for students.

Ashok Rajguru Essay
From the first session based on the case ââ¬Å"Ashok RaJguruâ⬠, I learned that to help a person, it is better to guide him to find a solution to his problems by himself. On the other hand, Ashok helped me in analysing my life by better understanding the mix of value of studies as well as personal relationships in life. Here I learnt that it is important to understand the value of your dreams at each stage and to keep evaluating it after some time, so that you donââ¬â¢t have to regret later. For the second case, I could not relate to a lot of things from my past experiences, but I got to know the kind of problems faced by employees in organisations. Here I learned from the experiences of my colleagues, who had faced similar situations at their workplace. I also learned that it is important o let misunderstandings not get created and if they do, then we should sort them out at the earliest. In the third and the fourth session, we analysed our personalities by filling in a questionnaire. With this instrument, I was able to understand the ego states that I follow. It has helped me in understanding various transactions that have taken place afterwards and I have been able to relate to them. From the reading I learned Managerial styles which will help me I my future

Essay Comprehensive Nursing Care
Essay Comprehensive Nursing Care Essay Comprehensive Nursing Care Comprehensive Nursing Care Within this essay I will discuss what is meant by healthy living and the perception of health and its impact on the life of a specific patient who I have cared for within a hospital setting. When we think of being healthy we often tend to look at the physical aspects, but being healthy is about the person as a whole, their mind and body which often extends to the whole community. The term health is therefore complex and has many definitions (Forster et al., 1999). The World Health Organisation (1948) has a popular definition which has not been amended since 1948, ââ¬ËA state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmityââ¬â¢. This definition can assist the nurse in developing a holistic approach to understanding health. I recently completed a placement at a local trust, and cared for a lady who I thought was appropriate to focus on in relation to her health status as she had had many admissions into hospital over the past 1 2 months. I will refer to this lady as Joan, as a nurse I have a legal, professional and ethical duty to protect all confidential information concerning patients by recognising the privacy of the patient and practice MNC (2008). Joan has had asthma for all of her life, and after contracting TB 2 years ago Joanââ¬â¢s health and state of mind has gradually deteriorated. Joanââ¬â¢s breathing difficulties has caused many admissions into hospital over the past 12 months and consequently has developed MRSA in her sputum. Joan was admitted into a side ward due to her having the MRSA virus. Her condition caused her to become bed bound for the first two days, she found it difficult to move around the room and relied on the nursing staff to assist her with personal hygiene needs. Joan is a very independent woman and having to have someone else to help her made her very anxious. Moore and Woodrow (2004) state that breathless patients can become confused due to anxiety, therefore I had to ensure that Joan was made to feel comfortable and to give the opportunity for her to do as much as possible without causing added breathlessness. Joan was commenced on oxygen therapy; which relieved the symptoms of breathlessness. Administrating oxygen reduces or corrects hypoxia by compensating for the reduced minute volume (Bennett 2003). Bennett et al (2003) state that oxygen can be delivered in a number of ways, it was important to ensure the method chosen was the appropriate device. Joan had a basic o2 mask and it was decided that she would benefit from a mask providing 8 litres of oxygen. The device used for oxygen administration should reflect the patientsââ¬â¢ requirements for oxygen as well as being comfortable for the patient to wear (Jevon and Ewens 2001). In helping Joan managing her breathlessness it was important for me to regularly assess Joanââ¬â¢s condition by observing her general appearance, looking for cyanosis, facial flushing and observing posture as this will indicate if the patient is anxious or afraid. Bennett (2003) states that when questioning breathless patients it is important to remember to use closed questions as talking increases breathlessness. As a nurse caring for Joan I played a big part in reviewing, monitoring and supporting her as she struggled with her breathing. It was particularly important to keep regular checks on all of Joanââ¬â¢s vital signs, tachycardia is common because of anxiety and hypoxia and bronchodilatory medications may increase it (Hoskins et al 2000). Most importantly in patients with respiratory related illnesses the nurse must remain calm and reassuring towards the patient, helping them to sit in an upright position to allow lung expansion. Joan has always been a busy lady, working and bringing up her children and then helping with the grandchildren. She regularly went to the shop and is a very house proud lady, enjoying all aspects of cleaning and keeping a good home. The unpredictability factor of an asthma

Comparison of state funding strategies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Comparison of state funding strategies - Essay Example Rather, three major modalities are implemented. These are work-study, loans, and grant. The benefit is that it expands the number of beneficiaries as it addresses different areas of educational funding needs. On a yearly basis, an amount of $5.35 billion is said to be spent in this regard. The new scheme comes to replace what was known as Robin Hood, and emerges with the benefit of allowing for better equitability, less divisiveness and better funding, all of which can be said to be the strength of the new scheme. Figure 1 below shows how different students and institutions have made use of the funding scheme. Unlike Texas where the funding scheme is directly focused on the student spending to the tune of $5.35 billion, the scheme in New York looks more into the generation and issuance of grants to educational institutions. What this means is that even though this money is non-repayable, it must be contested for by interested educational institutions through grant writing (NYSED, 2014). Here, the strength that can be seen of the state funding scheme used in New York is that it allows for competitiveness among institutions, where more deserving institutions that can justify their course through the grant writing receive more. Comparing this to what prevails in Texas, however, a major loophole can be found when it comes to equitable distribution of the national cake. This is because through no fault of their own, there will be students who will be denied necessary state funding since their institutions cannot convince state authorities as to why their institutions should receive grants. It must be noted that students have both direct and indirect benefits from state funds, including the savings made by parents on the payment of fees. Alabama, on the other hand, has a very unique state funding scheme that is meant purposely for college students (Alabama Commission on Higher Education, 2013). Unlike the first two strategies discussed, this

Organisational Information System-Bright Light Limited Essay
Organisational Information System-Bright Light Limited - Essay Example Apart from this there exists a high degree of interdependence between these departments. They need to constantly interact with one another to keep the business running. A lot of information needs to flow from one department to another in order to carry out their transactions. It may so happen that the ignition for the transactions in one department may come from the outputs of another department. Hence this clearly shows that there indeed is a necessity of some means of communication between various departments. The case of Bright Light Ltd is no different. If the transmission of this information among various departments is carried out manually then the maintenance and timely delivery of this information in the expected format would be a highly impossible task. This would be tedious, time consuming and inefficient. It is here that the need for an Information System would be felt. ââ¬Å"An Information system is a formalized computer Information system that can collect store, process and report data from various sources to provide the information necessary for managerial decision making.â⬠(Hicks, 1993) Information system being described here is concerned with not only a computerized application but it also considers the information regarding the organizational activities. An Information system can be specified with the help of the functions it performs. The functions carried out by the Information System broadly fall under five categories. These are namely: (Angell, 1991) Having these things in mind the following report would analyze the Information flow between various departments in the Bright Light Ltd organization. To facilitate this discussion the ââ¬Å"General Systems theoryâ⬠is chosen. The following discussion would include a brief introduction regarding the systems approach and the concepts used in this approach. This would be followed by identifying the departments in the BLL organization and an information flow

European Business Environment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1
European Business Environment - Essay Example The Euro is the first currency that was introduced without the backing of any single country, and rather had a large number of stakeholders with no one really ready to take full responsibility. The single currency posed many challenges to some of the nations whose policies were not flexible enough and those with regulated markets. From the very first day, economists feared that any external adjustment to the Eurozone would transfer financial issues to the inflexible markets through the currency and exchange rates. Any shock would result in changes to the exchange rate which will create problems for nation who had inflexible markets such as a labor market. Another issue is the lack of supervision that was assigned to the banks of the nations in the Eurozone. The Irish bank, for example, gained its finances from the German and French banks but there no check on the limit of the borrowing from the Irish bank. Soon after the Irish bank found itself into trouble, it also affected the Euro pean Central Bank. The situation was sort of similar to the U.S. Federal Reserve where it serves as the central bank of several states. In this case, the European Central Bank served as the central bank of several nations and it had to keep the borrowing of its member nations into check at all points of time. However, there was no such policy present to keep this check and the banks were given permission to borrow, which eventually resulted in over-borrowing of funds of banks from external sources and thus the Eurozone economies faced such financial shocks. The European Central Bank is actually a very weak institution by design since its inception. It has a very limited authority to influence the financial position of the countries under Eurozone. Let alone the powers to influence, the ECB also as a limited set of supervisory roles that any of the central bank would have. The ECB does not have the authority to buy any of the Eurozone country debt which limits its power as a central bank and its role to correct the errors made by individual nations. Not just this, unlike the other central banks of nations throughout the world, the sole mandate of the ECB is inflation. By law, the European Central Bank had no authority to interfere to correct the unemployment issues and could only take measures that corrected the issues related to inflation. (Skaperdas, n.d.) Another issue is that the European Central Bank only has the power of implementing the monetary policies and it could not influence the fiscal policies, which were controlled by the individual nations. In the modern world, most of the financial issues are addressed though fiscal policies which trigger or control the economic growth and inflation levels. Therefore, the different fiscal policies implemented by the numerous member nations resulted in different impacts of the financial crisis in 2008. In order to overcome the differing monetary and fiscal policies in the region, the member nation signed the Sta bility and Growth Pact to have a fiscal discipline and keep the debt levels and budget deficits within acceptable limits. However, the pact failed primarily due to a lack of commitment on part of the member nations and they continued to violate the condition set under the pact. The commission in charge under the pact proposed a one-size-fits-all policy which was inappropriate and unpopular because the member

Mary Shelleyââ¬â¢s Frankenstein Essay Example for Free
Mary Shelleyââ¬â¢s Frankenstein Essay Mary Shelleyââ¬â¢s Frankenstein tells the story of Victorââ¬â¢s ambition to successfully create a life through the use of science. In the present times, this is closely known as genetic engineering or cloning, wherein a scientist or a doctor dabbles in the works of creating a new life or transforming a life through science and technology. Shelley shows in her work that Victor had successfully created a being, however it stunned him, not in amazement but in hatred and fear of the misshapen creature he has created. The creature that Victor created was adultlike like in its physique but childlike in its mind. Its innocence became its downfall as it slowly learned, the hard way, that it is not a normal human being but a reject of the society because of its appearance. This led to its violent rampage destroying the things that it desires, belongingness in the society, and created an even more fearsome aura that caused people, even its creator, a deeper terror and horror in its existence. This shows that such inventions and discoveries does not necessarily mean success in the world of science as such creatures do not play a significant role in making the lives of people better. This indicates that science and technology has a great power in playing with fate and lives that people tend to question its ethics, morals and values. Shelley successfully presents in her work that science has to consider certain ethics and morals with its inventions, thinking about the purpose and result of the work in the world of humans. Ethics and morals are the basis of how humans live and think. The society strongly against inventions such as cloning and genetic engineering because of these values. Although the value life is a strong motive for dabbling into the arts of creating or transforming human life, the society thinks immoral of such actions because it makes the creator play with life, which in a religious or ethical sense, humans cannot play with. Shelleyââ¬â¢s Frankenstein shows that playing with fate and life has its consequences. Something that is created from the pieces of humanity cannot be entirely human on its own. Rejection is always present in society, and it cannot be blamed on the people when a creature, as misshapen as Frankenstein roams the streets without full knowledge of what life is. The lesson the Shelley leaves her readers is the importance of considering how knowledge is to be used for humanity and to improve human life. Another impacting thought that Shelley leaves is the significance of proper teaching of the masters to their students. When Victor showed an uncanny interest in modern science, his teachers dismissed his curiousity without explaining to him why such fascination is dangerous and not worth paying attention to. Victor turned to modern science because of the limitations of alchemy. He combined his knowledge of aggripa, alchemy and the modern science to turn create a new life that he later rejected and loathed. Both the educators and the students have a responsibility in what they do and the results of their actions. Before any scientific invention and discovery is pursued, ethical considerations, moral responsibility and purpose is to be weighed. Educators and students should look at their works with purpose and not just because they wanted to create something new. They have to consider the results of such actions, and if it will result to something that is not beneficial for human life and will endanger the morals and values of the society, then it should be discouraged. Science and technology is something that is to be used to improve human life not destroy it.

Sprained Ankle
Introduction Ankle sprains are the most common injury in sports1,2,3,4,5. This is how almost all the articles started out. This is an injury I have seen over the past years as a player and coach. A player on my team this year suffered this injury during our basketball season and she was out for a few weeks. This really hurt our team since I only had 7 players on my team this year. This had me wondering if there was anything I could have done differently as a coach to prevent her injury since it was done during a drill. There are several ligaments surrounding the bones to form the ankle, which are the syndesmotic ligament, lateral collateral ligament, and medial collateral ligament.5 Lateral ankle sprains can occur in several different ways when playing sports. Players can step on another player or landing from a jump. From doing this research, I would like to find some different ways to treat ankle injuries and if there are different outcomes from these treatments. Methods To conduct my research, I used the resources from the Southern Utah University Online Library. I used the search engine to find peer reviewed articles. I was searching for articles about ankle sprains and treatment of those injuries. I searched for words such as, ankle injury, prevention, and treatment. I found several peer reviewed articles about ankle sprains and different methods of treatment. There was also an article that was very useful from the National Athletic Trainers' Association that had a lot of different topics of information that very helpful. Discussion Ankle sprains can occur through many different activities. It is the most common sports injury among athletes1,2,3,4,5. This injury happens because of a plantar flexion and inversion. 3 The ligaments that are affected by ankle sprains are the anterior talofibular, calcaneofibular, and posterior talofibular ligament. 2 After an ankle injury occurs it must be determined what kind of sprain has happened. It can be classified as a grade I, grade II, or grade III with grade I being mild and grade III most severe. 2 When an ankle sprain occurs there can be inflammation of the ankle, loss of function, and instability. 1 There are different ways to diagnosis an ankle sprain such as range of motion, special tests, and MRI are just a few ways that an ankle sprain can be diagnosed. 2 There have been many different ways to treat ankle sprains. If not properly treated, ankle sprains can be reoccurring, 10-40% of people who have suffered from ankle sprains will have another sprain occur.6 Several different studies have been conducted to help with the treatment and rehabilitation of ankle sprains. Three different studies were used to help gain a better understanding about the treatment and rehabilitation of ankle injuries. In these studies, ankle taping, isometric testing and physical therapy were used to help with ankle injury recovery. In one study, ankle taping was used to see if it would reduce the ââ¬Å"latency of the perneus longus and increase dynamic stabilization of the ankleâ⬠4 pg. 54 Two groups were used, one group with no previous ankle injuries and another group who had suffered from a pervious ankle injury and the testing occurred over two days. 4 The leg that was being tested would either be taped or not depending on the trial. The foot would be inverted at 25 degrees. This was done for 10 trials and EMG was used to record the data. 4 After this study was conducted it showed that the ankle taping was helpful in providing more stability to the ankle compared to the ankle not being taped. 4 This shows that ankle taping can be a useful tool when trying to prevent the ankle from inversion. It also showed that it could be helpful for people who have had an ankle sprain and also for those who have not had an ankle injury. When thinking about injury prevention, someone who has not suffered from an ankle sprain might not think it is important to have his or her ankle taped. This was a good study to look at and see how this could be a beneficial tool to use for ankle injuries and how isometric training can be used help with rehabilitation after an injury. Treatment of ankle sprains is an important part of recovery so an athlete or any other person can go back to normal physical activities, whether it is sports or other activities. In another study, the rehabilitation after an ankle sprain was looked at using isometric testing. Two groups were used for this study and both groups had at home protocol that they completed.1 Each group had exercises to complete at home, an ankle brace to wear and cryotherapry to use after exercises. 1 Cryotherpary was used this treatment method 3-4 times a day for 15-20 minutes, this was done to help with pain and swelling and to reduce inflammation. 1 The use of isometric testing is used to help show how much inversion and eversion is affected. 1 The use of isometric training can be used to monitor the progress during treatment for ankle sprains and can also be used to help make programs for individualized for each athlete. 1 This study had patients completing a program where they completed different exercises at home and tests were also completed to check the progress of each person during their rehabilitation. Several different outcomes were measured such as pain, ankle circumference, lower extremity functional scale, square hop test, and isometric ankle testing. 1 These test are helpful when people are trying to recover from an ankle injury. The use of isometric testing is a good way to track progress and could possibility help with the recovery process to go quickly. Physical therapy can be a tool used to help with the recovery process of an ankle injury. The final study looked at physical therapy being a good way to help treat ankle injuries. Two groups were used in this study one group who received physical therapy and another group who did not. 5 The group who participation in the physical therapy program had improved results in pain reduction, dorsal and plantar flexion improved, and muscles were strengthen. 5 The use of physical therapy can be a beneficial way help someone who has suffered from an ankle injury recover more quickly. After reading these three studies about different ways to help the recovery and monitor progress of ankle injuries, there were some beneficial ideas. The main one is that physical therapy or at home exercises can help with the healing process. Also, each athlete or patient should have an individualized program for recovery. This can help aid in the recovery of an athlete from their injury and return to play more quickly. There are a few limitations from these studies as well and more research should be conducted. In the study with physical therapy used the sample size for each group was very small with only three patients in each group. 5 Facilities or equipment used should also be looked at. Isometric testing is a great way test patients and come up with individualized programs but could be very expensive or obtain this type of testing depending on what is available to each program. Prevention of injuries is important for keeping athletes playing and taking time away from their sports season. In the article from the National Athletic Trainers' Association, three different ideas were given for the prevention of ankle injuries. The first suggestion is a prevention program for athletes for three months. 2 This type of program would include exercises that would help balance and neuromuscular control. 2 For athletes who have suffered an ankle injury previously might feel better if they train to help prevent their injury. They might even feel a sense of security by training. Another prevention measure is increasing strength in the leg and hips. 2 Finally, dorsiflexion range of motion could also be trained, if it is limited. 2 Knowing if an athlete has suffered from an ankle injury and ways to help strengthen the ankle and leg could prevent another injury. An athlete should take any preventive measure decrease their chances of suffering from an injury. Once an athlete has recovered from an injury, there is always a question of when they should return to play. There is a physical and mental part of returning to play. For an athlete, there is mental part of coming back from an injury. They might have feelings of nervousness to play because of risk of getting injured again. Before an athlete can return to play there should be a physical examination done by the athletic trainer. The trainer could complete different tests to check for the readiness of a player to return to games or practices. According to the National Athletic Trainers' Association Position Statement, tests such as single-legged hop and Star Excursion Balance Test could be used to measure an athletes' injured leg.2 The athlete should be at 80% functional performance. 2 Athletes should also consider wearing ankle braces or taping for extra support during practices and games. 2 Each athlete should be looked at individually when returning to play and should be ready both physically and mentally to come back. One controversy that one mentioned for ankle sprains was the use of different types of shoes. According to one article,2 there have been studies conducted about low-top and high-top shoes. In basketball, players might wear high-top shoes but in sports like football low-top shoes could be worn. There have been studies done with conflicting results if you wear low-top or high-top shoes with ankle stabilizers could help prevent ankle sprains.2 Some studies showed that high-top shoes and ankle taping was more helpful in preventing ankle injuries.2 While another study showed that wearing low-top shoes with ankle braces was more helpful in preventing ankle injuries.2 I found this interesting that shoes could make a difference if they were low-top or high-top. Future research results on this topic would be interesting to see if there is a certain type of footwear that could help prevent ankle injuries and if there could be one consensus about this topic. Conclusion In conclusion, athletes in all sports see this injury too often. From conducting this research, I learned a lot about ankle injuries, which I have also seen during my time as a coach and player. I have learned about the different methods to treat this injury and the use of different techniques and exercises. I hope to take away some ideas about prevention of this injury with the use of different exercises that can be used. Ankle taping and ankle braces could also be a good way to help support the ankle after an injury. It is important for coaches and players to learn about this injury and the different ways to prevent and recovery from this injury if it does occur. References Gediminas T, Aleksandras K, Lankaite D.
